What I love about New Year's eve is making and eating savory bites. I'm happy with a movie in the afternoon and then home to my slippers and the fireplace. These days, now that I've cashed out of my house and am renting a cozy guest cottage, the "fire in the fireplace" is a DVD of a fire in the hearth I purchased at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I also purchased "Snowy Day" which I will save for New Year's Day here in sunny Beverly Hills.
The star ingredient for tonight is Fillo Dough. I will be making an Onion Tart as well as an old standard, Pigs in a Blanket.
Breaking tradition somewhat, I'm taking my slippers and my savories to our friends' home where they are whipping up a White Bean and Rosemary Soup. There is a real fireplace. I will also be bringing my favorite raisin bread from Le Pain Quotidien. There's a game in store I hear, something called Apples to Apples?
